SSD & memory upgrades
Running out of space doesn't have to mean a new Mac. We upgrade older Macs with standard parts and newer ones at chip level.
Older Macs (2007–2017)
Many Macs from this period take standard drives or Apple's removable SSD modules. A fast SSD and, where possible, more RAM is one of the best-value improvements you can make.
- Hard drive to SSDiMac, Mac mini and older MacBook and MacBook Pro.
- Larger SSD moduleMacBook Air and MacBook Pro Retina up to 2017.
- More RAMiMac 27-inch and selected older models.
Recent Macs with soldered storage
On Apple silicon and later Intel Macs, the SSD and memory chips are soldered to the logic board. They can still be upgraded. We remove the original NAND or memory chips and fit larger ones, then restore macOS and your data.
This is specialist micro-soldering work. Ask which capacities are possible for your model.
Questions
Upgrade FAQ
Is a chip-level upgrade the same as Apple's upgrade?
No. Apple only offers storage and memory options when you buy the Mac. Our upgrade is done afterwards by replacing the chips on the board. It is not an official Apple upgrade, and we explain what that means for your Mac before you decide.
Do you keep my data during an upgrade?
Yes. We back up your data first and restore it onto the larger storage once the upgrade is finished.
